Michael. I saw that the other day in the cinema, pretty cool ad and very well made. For me its taking an idea that is all about making music, and a radical idea at that, and linking it with communication concepts and the moble phone industry. Goes to show that the concepts at fringe gradually move mainstream.

Michael - love the commercial and also your commentary.

This mainstream adoption of the idea of an art of noise seems to be a double edged sword. It opens up all sounds to a composer - but also means that it will be more difficult to shock or surprise with sound.

FYI - I made a post on this at <a href="http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2008/08/15/sampling-the-olympics/" rel="nofollow">Synthtopia</a>. Thanks for highlighting this!

Actually the image is not showing up and I haven't seen the commercial yet, but I was shocked to see a MIDI arranger/sequencer in my Ericsson cell phone 2 years ago too.
It was pretty basic, but still! :)

Hi Maxter,

I hear that SynthEdit is a good tool. PD is also a good variation, and for hackers, CSound is amazing.

The whole MAX package is a bigger bite than it used to be, but the company rocks and provides great documentation and support. No demo? Hmmm, are you sure? That wasn't always the case.

Michael, I have used various Steinberg products with PC 2001 and XP. Now I have had to move into Windows Vista, and find Cubase SE does not function. This puts a kink in my learning.

I am only a hobbyist, and try to make music, practice my instrument and climb the learning curve to use the technology. Two questions.

1) What will work well with Vista like Cubase SE did with XP?

2) Can I be involved with "Desktop music production" without the severe time line of the for credit course format?

I hope this will also post to my email as I will otherwise have trouble getting back to your comments. You said, "we often forget the user interface –how we work with a particular tool"
Easy access and continuity are important to me. Thanks, Andy Lininger, L. Ac. Clinical Faculty MCAOM/NWHSU
